Emergency Services

REMER AREA AMBULANCE SERVICE (RAAS)

Remer Area Ambulance Service (RAAS) is located in the town of Remer at 401 Industrial Ave NW. RAAS is mainly a volunteer staffed ambulance service, one of the few volunteer services left in Minnesota. We have, in the last couple of years, included a couple of paid workers to handle the times volunteers are unavailable. RAAS serves a resident population of 2500, in a geographical area of 465 square miles. The population easily doubles when the cabin owners and visitors return in the beautiful summer months! Included in that geographical area are 15 townships and 2 villages.

RAAS is built on the foundation that our citizens and patients deserve the very best medical care in times of emergency. RAAS serves the eastern-most townships of Cass County. There are no public or private hospitals in Cass County. RAAS transports patients primarily to Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, which is 25 miles from Remer, and to Deer River Community Hospital in Deer River, which is 25 miles from Remer, and to Cuyuna Range Medical Center in Crosby, which is 42 miles from Remer. RAAS also transports to Brainerd, Bemidji and Cass Lake Indian Health Service.
